Nisha Mody (she/her) is a trauma-informed, liberatory life coach who helps people who have spent years shrinking themselves to step forward without self-doubt. She describes her work as helping clients remember their worth, navigate intergenerational trauma, and create loving boundaries. She coaches, speaks, and writes, with a holistic approach rooted in anti-oppression, trauma-informed care, and collective care. Her coaching covers connecting with the body, the nervous system, and deconditioning from colonialism and capitalism. It also covers tending to trauma, guilt, and shame.
Nisha is the child of Indian immigrants. She writes about growing up obedient yet wanting to break free of the model minority myth, and about the path that followed. Her healing began in earnest with the unexpected death of her father and her divorce, which came within a year of each other. Years of therapy, healing her mother wound, writing, meditating, and asking for support helped her see that no one is broken and that healing is not linear.
Before coaching, she worked as a consultant, speech therapist, and librarian, and she was a library director. She holds two master's degrees, one in Speech-language Pathology and one in Library and Information Science. Seeing library workers without the tools to create safety for patrons and colleagues led her to create a self-paced course on trauma-informed and relational care for libraries.
Values guide her work: growth, relationship, and liberation, along with vulnerability, unlearning, compassion, curiosity, and interdependence. She begins with clients by asking them to do a values exercise, then returns to those values whenever they feel stuck. She also keeps a BIPOC Healing Fund for scholarships, and shares her writing through a free newsletter, Notes from Nishaland.
